چکیده
A review of litigation cases in the Westlaw database from September 1, 1987, to October 23, 2019, was performed. total 346 aortic aneurysms (196) and dissections (150) were identified. Physician defendants emergency medicine (29%), cardiology (20%), internal (14%), radiology (11%), cardiothoracic surgery (10%), vascular (10%). Litigation claims included failure or delay diagnosis treatment 80% negligent postoperative care complications 20% cases. The jury ruled favor defendant approximately half plaintiff (or case settled) other half. mean rewarded for each $1,644,590 (range: $17,500 $68,035,462). Because majority lawsuits involving involved treatment, improvements education across medical specialties may allow improved diagnostic accuracy, efficient associated

Adventitial Fibroblast Abormality in Thoracic Aortic Aneurysms and Aortic Dissections
BACKGROUND Development of thoracic aortic aneurysms and aortic dissections (TAAD) is attributed to unbearable wall tension superimposed on defective aortic wall integrity and impaired aortic repair mechanisms. Central to this repair mechanisms are well-balanced and adequately functional cellular components of the aortic wall, including endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells (SMCs), inflammatory...
متن کاملNew insights into the molecular diagnosis and management of heritable thoracic aortic aneurysms and dissections.
Since the identification of the fibrillin‑1 gene as the causal gene for Marfan syndrome, our knowledge of molecular genetics and the applicability of genetic testing for heritable thoracic aneurysms and dissections (H-TAD) in clinical practice have increased substantially. Several new syndromes related to H-TAD have been described and the list of mutated genes in syndromal and nonsyndromal H-TA...
متن کاملNon-syndromic thoracic aortic aneurysms and dissections--a genetic review.
Thoracic aortic aneurysm and dissections (TAADs) are associated with both high mortality and medical expense. Poor outcomes are preventable by surgical repair; however, identifying individuals at-risk is difficult. Researchers are scanning the human genome to characterize the genetic determinants of TAADs by identifying chromosomal regions, gene mutations, single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP), ...
متن کاملFamilial thoracic aortic aneurysms and dissections.
Rupture of thoracic aortic aneurysms and/or dissections is not rare, occurring in approximately 0.6% of all medicolegal autopsies. Most forensic pathologists are aware of the association between thoracic aortic aneurysms/dissections and trauma, atherosclerosis, inflammation and Marfan syndrome. In this report, we discuss a familial form of thoracic aortic dilatation and/or dissection that is di...
متن کاملDrug-Induced Aortic Aneurysms, Ruptures and Dissections
Both prescription drugs and illicit substances have been associated with the formation of aortic aneurysms, ruptures of aortic aneurysms, and acute aortic dissections. Most of the clinical information exists as single case reports and case series, but causal relationships have for many drug groups been substantiated on the basis of the known mechanisms of action of the drugs as well as from exp...
